Healthy Dessert Recipes

Summer Berries, Oats and Yoghurt in a glass.

With the use of the right ingredients Healthy dessert recipes allow you to have a sweet treat without having to worry about any extra calories.

There once was a time when I thought that the only healthy alternative to desserts was to go without; where’s the fun in that?

If you get the ingredients right you don't have to stick with tiny portions, or give up on puddings all together.

By combining the natural sweetness of fruit with ingredients like no-added sugar fruit juices, dried fruits, nuts and selected spices along with low fat dairy products, you can create healthy desserts that can rival the more traditional dessert recipes that are packed with calories.

Using fresh produce that's in season is a must as fruit that is imported, because it’s not in season, won’t have the same depth of flavour as fruit that is in season and grown locally.

For most of these dessert recipes I have relied on the natural sweetness of the fruit but when sugar is needed I’ve use splenda as an alternative to sugar. Splenda contains just 2 calories per teaspoon; compared to sugar that contains about 20 calories for the same amount.

So skipping dessert doesn’t have to be the only option because with a little preparation and use of the right ingredients you can create healthy desserts that are low in fat and with little sugar.
